The Activa EV will finally be showcased for the first time to Indian buyers in Bengaluru on November 27, 2024
Honda's first EV for India is just days away from its much-awaited global debut in Bengaluru. The brand has released several teasers of the upcoming e-scooter that hint at its overall design, features, and range. Honda's battery-swapping subsidiary, Honda Power Pack Energy India Pvt Ltd is also based in Bengaluru and hence the Japanese automaker has chosen the southern city for the launch of its first electric vehicle in India, the Activa EV. Let's talk about the upcoming Honda Activa EV in detail.
Several teaser videos have confirmed that the Activa EV will be based on Honda's CUV-e global electric scooter which was also showcased at EICMA 2024 in Italy. It is expected to borrow several elements from the CUV-e scooter in the form of the TFT instrument cluster, battery pack and electric motor. The Activa EV may use a new frame. However, it is reported that it could also be the basis for the heavily re-engineered chassis of the CUV-e.
The Honda Activa EV will come with two separate battery packs that will be placed under the seat. This battery setup has been confirmed in Honda's latest teaser video, which again is similar to the CUV-e. However, the battery capacity is not yet known, but it will be bigger than the CUV-e scooter. The Activa EV can have a range of 100+ kilometres on a single charge as shown in the teaser video. Let us tell you that the Honda CUV-e has a range of 72 kilometres on a single charge. So, it is certain that the India-spec scooter will get a bigger battery than the 2.6 kWh battery of the CUV-e.
Talking about the features, Honda Activa EV will get a 7-inch colored TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation, two ride modes (standard and sport), music control, range indicator and battery charge indicator. Honda can also offer many premium features like cruise control, reverse mode and combi-brake system in this electric scooter. The top speed of Honda CUV-e is 80 kmph and the electric motor gives a top power of 8 bhp. We expect the figures of Activa EV to be around the same. The Activa electric scooter will have a high level of localization to keep the price aggressive. In the Indian market, it will compete directly with Ola S1, Bajaj Chetak EV, Vida V1 and Ather 450.
The Honda Activa EV price could start from Rs 80,000 while the top-end variant could be priced around Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings are expected to start from November 27, the day of the unveiling, while the price announcement could take place at the India Mobility Global Expo 2025 in January. Deliveries of the Honda Activa EV in India will begin from February 2025 in a phased manner.
