4 Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Hybrid Cars Expected in India in the Next 2 Years

Maruti Suzuki is anticipated to unveil its proprietary new series hybrid technology with the Fronx facelift in the upcoming year within the Indian market.


In the automotive industry's progression towards comprehensive electrification, hybrid vehicles are gaining significant traction among contemporary car buyers. Despite the limited availability of affordable mass-market models, hybrid technology stands out for its exceptional fuel efficiency, often positioning itself as a viable alternative to diesel engines.

In this report, we will examine the forthcoming Maruti hybrid vehicles to be introduced in the Indian market over the next two years.

1. Maruti Suzuki's upcoming 7-seater hybrid SUV based on the Grand Vitara platform.

The upcoming 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara, codenamed Y17, will be launched by Maruti Suzuki next year. Based on Suzuki's Global C platform, this three-row SUV will share the powertrain with the current Grand Vitara, including the robust hybrid and 1.5-liter K15C naturally aspirated petrol engines. The hybrid variant will utilize the familiar 1.5-liter 3-cylinder petrol engine operating on the Atkinson cycle, coupled with a 177.6 V lithium-ion battery pack powering the electric motor. The combined system output is rated at 114 bhp and 141 Nm of peak torque.

2. Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid Facelift


Codenamed YTB, the Fronx Facelift Hybrid is scheduled for launch in India in 2025. The updated Fronx is expected to incorporate Maruti Suzuki's new HEV series hybrid powertrain technology, potentially delivering fuel efficiency exceeding 30 kmpl. It will utilize the new 1.2-liter Z12E petrol engine coupled with the series hybrid system. The Fronx Facelift will feature an updated design, enhanced features, and an efficient powertrain. 3. The latest iteration of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, featuring hybrid technology.


In accordance with recent media reports, Maruti Suzuki is actively engaged in the development of the next-generation WagonR. Anticipated to be introduced in the Indian market during the upcoming year, this new hatchback will incorporate a robust hybrid powertrain system. The Japanese specification model of the forthcoming new-generation WagonR is projected to utilize a 666cc, 3-cylinder gasoline engine in conjunction with a fully-fledged hybrid system. The engine's power output is estimated to be rated at 53 bhp, while the electric motor is anticipated to deliver an additional 10 bhp. This full-hybrid powertrain configuration will be seamlessly integrated with an e-CVT gearbox.

4. Maruti Suzuki Swift Hybrid Vehicle

The most recent iteration of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, a next-generation vehicle, was recently observed undergoing testing in India while displaying the hybrid emblem. According to recent media reports, the test vehicle utilizes the 12V mild-hybrid technology that is present in the international model, and the primary objective of the testing is to refine the ADAS technology for the Indian market. However, a full hybrid version of the Swift is in the works, which will incorporate the company's cutting-edge HEV series hybrid powertrain technology and is anticipated to be introduced between the years 2026 and 2027.
